About me...
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#LMFT43061) with over twenty years of experience. Raised in Oregon and the Bay Area, I received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Georgetown University and completed my Master's in Counseling Psychology at Santa Clara University. In addition to maintaining a private practice since 2008, I have worked in a variety of therapeutic settings, including a hospital, residential substance abuse/mental health treatment facility, elementary school, psychology graduate program, and a homeless shelter. In these roles I have facilitated group, individual, family, and couples therapy, as well as supervised unlicensed interns and associates. I have seen clients with severe mental health issues, as well as clients who are functioning well but need help with a specific problem. I think it is brave to seek help, no matter how big or small the concern.
Perhaps equally important, I am also a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, colleague, (neighbor, customer, ex-girlfriend, the list goes on) … to so many people. My relationships are not perfect but I believe that one of our core challenges as humans is to relate effectively and meaningfully with others. I strive to help clients with finding their voice, being intentional in their communication, and speaking from the heart.
I help adults, adolescents, families, and couples. Some of my particular areas of expertise include mood disorders (such as depression or bipolar), anxiety/worries, relationship issues, substance abuse and other addictions, eating disorders, trauma/PTSD, infertility, self-esteem, domestic violence, LGBTQ+ concerns, and life transitions. If you are struggling with something not listed here, it's possible I have the skills and tools to help you. If not, I will try to assist you in finding someone who does. It sometimes takes a few tries to find the right therapist for you.
Research shows that the most important factor for successful therapy is a solid connection between the therapist and patient; this is even more critical than the type of therapy being provided. I encourage prospective clients to set up a free 30-minute phone consultation with me, so we can chat and see if it feels like a fit. I also want to be sure I have the scope of competence to help you, and I want you to feel empowered to choose whether we work together.
Professional memberships:
CAMFT (California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists) since 2002
Volunteer with A Home Within (an organization that provides pro bono therapy to current and former foster youth) since 2010
